A little bit about Giclee Prints and Printing -

Giclee is a French word that translates as a spray of liquid. Artists looking to produce a high quality fine art reproduction of their work typically choose Giclee printing as this method faithfully reproduces the details, tones, and textures of the original canvas work.  There is no visible dot pattern on the Giclee print which can happen with other digital print methods.

The process for creating a Giclee print starts with a finished painting; once dry, but typically prior to varnishing, the canvas is digitally scanned (not with a home scanner!) with a high resolution scanner.  Thereafter follows a process of adjusting colours until the printed image is identical in tone and hue to the original painting. Following sign off by the Artist, it is then printed either onto archival paper or onto canvas depending on client specifications.

Using Archival paper and inks ensures that the prints are bot light and colour fast and with care will last a lifetime.

You might like to know that whilst Artists are able to produce up to 1500 prints from an original work and still be entitled to label these as limited edition, in my own work, 98% of my work is produced as an edition of 100 or less and all are signed, titled and numbered by hand.

Each Limited Edition Print is ….

Open Edition Prints

I also produce some of my work as an open edition.  These pieces are also signed and titled and are produced to the same high quality as my limited editions however they are not numbered.  In the blurb alongside each print, it will clearly state whether the print is limited or open.
